Headaches are the first way that your body tells you it needs water. When you don’t take in the amount of water your body needs, your brain will also not have the amount of fluid it needs. When this brain fluid is reduced, your brain will start pushing on your skull, giving you a throbbing pain in your head.
Headaches may also lead to various other health issues because dehydration causes less blood flow and oxygen flow to the brain.
- Foggy Brain
If you are not aware, the human brain is composed 90% of water. Therefore, dehydration can slow down the functioning of the brain. This can lead to cognitive issues and mood swings.
Even a mild dehydration can lead to reduction of short term memory, arithmetic abilities, visual and motor tracking, psychomotor skills and perception in any person young or old.
Lack of water can also lead to hyper-energy, exhaustion, mood changes, anger, confusion.
- Heart problem
Water deficiency can affect our heart as well as the brain. When the body doesn’t have enough water, it can reduce the volume of blood plasma in turn increasing the viscosity of blood.

The nutrients from food is extracted when the water in the body breaks down the food. Water also helps to extract vitamins C and B which are soluble in water.
Water also lubricates the digestive system and keeps it functioning and clean. Water promotes good bowel movements and reduces risk of constipation. When you drink less water, it will cause you burning feeling in the digestive tract and constipation.

If you feel a craving for food, this may be just because your body needs water. So, before you consume food to stop the craving, drink a glass of water and see the result. Sometimes when our body is unable to signal our brain about thirst, it’s signaled as a hunger.

When the body is water deficient, it causes less sweating. As sweat is what removes the toxins, oil and dirt from your skin, your skin will not have a way to remove these until you clean yourself with water. Dehydration can also cause dry and chapped lips, acne, eczema and psoriasis.

As water is used to remove the toxins in the body with urine, with enough water, you will urinate more and the color of urine is clear to yellow. This means that the body has adequate water to remove the toxins properly.
But when our body is dehydrated, the kidneys do not get enough water to pass out with the toxins collected from the body. The blood pressure and mineral balance is also affected when the kidneys don’t have the necessary amount of water.
A high concentration of toxins is passed out with urine in a dehydrated body, causing the urine to turn dark. However, this will cause the kidneys to retain large amounts of toxins and can lead to kidney stones.
